Environment PILLAR

Committed to decarbonization, the Barrière Group has integrated the principles of the circular economy and biodiversity preservation into the core of its activities. Its approach thus reconciles tourism, leisure, and respect for the environment in order to preserve ecosystems while offering a more responsible experience.

Sustainable buildings and more responsible resource management

The Barrière Group designs and adapts its infrastructure to reduce its environmental footprint while ensuring the comfort of its customers. This approach is reflected in the use of materials with a lower environmental impact, energy optimization, and continuous improvement in resource management.

Numerous initiatives have been implemented to reduce water and energy consumption, such as centralized lighting management and the installation of high environmental performance equipment.

Renewable energies now account for 50% of the Barrière Group's energy contract.

During extended stays, linen is only changed on request, combining comfort with resource conservation.

The establishments are also committed to harmonious integration into their environment, promoting landscape integration, ecosystem preservation, and more sustainable construction practices.

Promoting the circular economy

The principles of the circular economy are fully integrated through the Responsible Purchasing Policy. Inspired by the 5R approach – Refuse, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Repair – practices are being rethought to limit environmental impact and optimize resource use.

  • Refuse: by limiting the purchase of single-use products and favoring committed suppliers and eco-designed products.

  • Reduce: by limiting resource consumption and favoring more sustainable solutions that generate less waste.

  • Reuse: by giving equipment and materials a second life to extend their use and avoid waste.

  • Recycle: by sorting and recovering waste to give it a new use in appropriate channels.

  • Repair: by encouraging repairs whenever possible to extend the life of equipment.

This approach applies to all business lines and is accompanied by optimized waste management through a single service provider, Take a Waste, which specializes in comprehensive waste management, enabling us to anticipate regulatory changes and ensure efficient sorting. To date, nearly 10 recycling channels are used within our establishments, bringing the recycling rate to 45%.

The Barrière Group is also taking action to reduce its paper consumption by gradually digitizing its communication materials and offering its customers a digital press service, PressReader.

The Group encourages the reduction of single-use packaging and the reuse of items such as decorative elements, kakemonos, badges, and brochures.

Moving towards a low-carbon trajectory

The Group's greenhouse gas emissions are gradually being measured by conducting carbon assessments at its sites. These assessments enable us to define concrete action plans and structure an ambitious low-carbon trajectory tailored to our activities.

Preserving biodiversity

The Barrière Group contributes to preserving its ecosystem by adopting practices that benefit local flora and fauna. This is reflected in its establishments through ecological management of green spaces. In addition, each establishment is committed to carrying out at least one action per year to promote biodiversity.

Today, hotels and casinos have nearly 130 initiatives (beehives, vegetable gardens, birdhouses, etc.). Among them, around 40 beehives produce approximately 550 kg of honey per year.

A certification process for its golf courses, called “Golf for Biodiversity,” is also underway to improve the management and conservation of natural spaces while promoting biodiversity.
