Barrière to renovate the Grand Hôtel in Dinard
The shutters are all closed – ready for a makeover, and the work starts on 5 November. Le Grand Hôtel Barrière Dinard will be «taking a short break» for the 2018-2019 Breton winter season, bouncing back in the spring with its fabulous views of the Baie de la Vicomté, Saint Malo and the glittering blue sea.
The Barrière Group has entrusted the spirit, soul and character of this place and all its history, people and elegance to interior designer Alexandre Danan.
The project is part of a programme to renovate Barrière Hôtels and Casinos that started in 2013 (*). "We see enhancing and modernising our Grand Hôtel de Dinard as a matter of pride and duty", said President Dominique Desseigne emphatically. Adding: " Helping to create seaside resorts on the French coast and encouraging them to prosper has been part and parcel of our family Group’s strategy and goals since it was founded over a hundred years ago."
The Grand Hôtel Dinard was built in 1858 on the Brittany coast – a pioneering force for seaside tourism. Before the Côte d'Azur… Barrière acquired it 140 years later, in 1998. Over the years and successive generations, Le Grand Hôtel has not only become the number one «home from home» for crowned heads, famous artists and members of the old elite and the new jet set. It has created an atmosphere, a holiday lifestyle in tune with all modern comforts – and even anticipating them. It saw several firsts as time went by – the first luxury hotel in France with a lift, direct phone line in each Suite and even – hot water!
This is the challenge faced by Alexandre Danan: writing another chapter in its history – all the atmosphere, comfort, discreet elegance and luxury. And the Brittany light. With sophisticated materials, colours to tone down the rather solemn red and harmonise with the ever-changing blues of sea and sky, and the addition of well-being areas. Just like the amazing light-filled terrace overlooking the Baie de la Vicomté – a ship’s bow gently pushed along by the wind.
Interior designer Chantal Peyrat will be in charge of creating a Spa Diane Barrière.
