The construction of Le Normandy in 1912 in Deauville marked the beginning of Barrière's hotel business. François André, the associate of Eugène Cornuché, invented modern tourism there by creating the concept of the "French-style Resort”, combining a casino, hotels and sports facilities on a single site. In more than a century, Barrière has undergone a prestigious rise to power and experienced phenomenal success. Barrière operates 19 hotels, the majority of which are 5 stars, as well as a Palace in Courchevel, with more than 2,300 Rooms and Suites and 17 Ryads.

Principally based by the seaside, but also offering city and mountain locations, in 2009 Barrière ventured abroad, to Morocco. Infusing each of its destinations with its identity and know-how, it offers a comprehensive range of services adapted to the environment and the expectations of its guests, always providing an authentic and personalised high-end service. Whether facing the legendary Planches boardwalk in Deauville, on the Croisette in Cannes, in New York's famous Tribeca district, or in the heart of Paris, amidst the vineyards of Alsace or in the Medina of Marrakech , Hôtels Barrière are all exceptional destinations.

Heritage & Modernity

Since 2013, Barrière has invested near €400 million to renovate its establishments. In the 1990s, Diane Barrière had already given the Group new impetus, infusing it with that inimitable "Barrière" style by initiating a long collaboration with interior designer Jacques Garcia. This was the first time that a hotel group had teamed up with an interior designer to renovate its establishments. Today, architects and designers such as Chantal Peyrat, Nathalie Ryan, and Alexandre Danan reinterpret the Hôtels Barrière identity and restore these legendary establishments to their former splendour and elegance while reinventing them with a modern touch.

Barrière is also continuing to expand both in France and abroad. In 2010, Barrière opened Resort Barrière Lille, an incredible glass showcase filled with light and situated in the heart of the city, designed by architect Jean-Paul Viguier. Once again, it broke new ground by combining a hotel, casino, theatre and spa under one roof. In 2012, Resort Barrière Ribeauvillé was unveiled, and in 2016 the grooup acquired Hôtel Barrière Le Westminster in Le Touquet. In mid-December on the same year, Hotel Barrière Les Neiges opened its doors in Courchevel, being awarded the Palace distinction three years later. A new hotel, Le Carl Gustaf, opened in Saint-Barths in October 2020, and the group has continued to export its French art of living, opening Hôtel Barrière Fouquet's New York, its frst US-based venture, in 2022.  No matter what the destination, the ever groundbreaking Barrière offers an innovative range of services to redefine the top-of-the-range leisure and well-being experience over the decades.

Barrière's well-being programme continues to grow and expand, particularly in La Baule, Ribeauvillé and Deauville, where all-new concepts have been introduced in partnership with prestigious brands.

Barrière’s hedonistic spirit – both gourmet and welcoming – can also be found in its 140 restaurants and bars under the Tables Barrière label. These establishments offer delicious and authentic cuisine that is sure to delight the senses. From Michelin-starred restaurants, like Le Pavillon in Le Touquet, to the essentials of brasserie cuisine with the 10 Fouquet’s, Tables Barrière covers the entire spectrum of French gastronomy.

For its youngest guests, the Kids Barrière programme provides an innovative approach by offering parents even more services, such as balanced and inventive meals, and a host of activities to make everyone happy.
